The Twists and Turns in Life

Greetings!

I had a past-life kind of dream the other morning.  It was like watching a movie in my sleep.  I played a role in the story, but I was also an observer of what went on in the dream while the physical I was asleep.

The dream began with the setting of a wealthy family.  Inside a room, a rich man and his family were having dinner with his mother.  Some people including me (a young woman) stood outside of the room.  I was the rich man's assistant.  The dinner seemed to be important, and nobody should interrupt or enter the room except to refill the tea.  The boss had told me to enter the room at the right time, which meant I should go in when he called, or when I felt, it was time to fill the cups with hot tea.  It seemed to be a very delicate matter.  There was more to this part of the story, but I wanted to get to the main point of the dream.

Next, the boss and the assistant were in an office setting.  They talked about business endeavors.  In the dream, the observing me got that they were simply an employer and an employee, and there was no personal feeling between them.  I also got the sense that the assistant did her job well because she always handled every task with care and efficiency.  Interestingly, the observing me thought a known old actor (of the present time) would be ideal to play the boss character if it was a movie.

Here came the twist.  I saw another scene.  The boss and the assistant worked into the late hours.  The assistant did not have her car that day.  She thought the boss might drop her off on his way home if she asked.  She had driven others home when they needed a ride.  However, when she asked the boss, he immediately scolded her with disdain, "Who do you think you are?"  The young woman was surprised and hurt at the response.

Though she was an employee, she had never regarded herself inferior to anybody. She followed his instructions, but she was only doing her job.  Before this incident, social status had not played a part in how she treated other people.  She treated everybody with respect.  After the incident, she mentally kept a distance from the boss as well as those who were rich or in high positions.

The boss came from a traditionally wealthy family.  His immediate arrogant response was nothing out of his everyday behavior.  He had a strong sense of superiority because people around him had treated him that way ever since he was born.  He had treated others with slight even though he might not have talked like that to the assistant before.  At first, he did not think much of what he said that night, but he soon felt the invisible barrier she set between them.  She still did her job well.  However, he could sense she no longer looked at him with respect as she used to.  Somehow, the change in the assistant troubled him.  Eventurally, it caused him to examine his life and his attitude towards other people.

In the dream, I got the feeling that this man spent the rest of his life trying to change and make up for the mistakes he had made to the other people; meanwhile, the young woman who formed a negative view of some people because of this twist and turn in her life would go through many lessons too.

The dream ended.

As I came out of the dream, I thought 'what a twist, and life has many twists'.  I realized the twists and turns in life were happenings that set forth the opportunities for us to learn many lessons and eventually find who we truly were (or are).
